The belief and determination was there. But the Camarillo Eagles Under-17 girls' soccer team learned achieving bigger goals requires scoring goals. The Eagles suffered a 1-0 loss to Slammers FC in the championship game of the U.S. Youth Soccer Far West Regional Championships in Honolulu on Sunday.

Playing in their fifth state championship final in five years, the defending United States Youth Soccer national champion Eagles Soccer Club of Camarillo, defeated Laguna Hills Eclipse White, 6-5, on penalty kicks to win its third state crown and second in succession. The match was tied 1-1 at the conclusion of 90 minutes of regulation and 2-2 at the end of 30 additional minutes of overtime in Lancaster.
