Weight Loss Made Simple

Posted 10:20 p.m., January 3, 2008

The basic arithmetic of weight loss is that each pound of body fat is worth 3,500 calories. Thus, to lose 1 pound a week (a safe, reachable goal), you must tip the calorie consumption versus expenditure balance in your favor by just 500 calories each day. The easiest way to achieve this is to cut out 250 calories during the day and to burn up the other 250 calories through 30 minutes of exercise. For example, you can cut out those 250 calories simply by drinking a glass of water with lemon instead of a can of regular soda and by leaving the cheese off your sandwich at lunch, and then make up the other 250 calories by working out at the gym or by walking two and half miles. Just by making simple, easy substitutions like these and by adding some form of exercise on a daily basis, you can lose weight painlessly and without much difficulty.
