Home Away from Home
Posted 11:59 p.m., April 4, 2008
The whole house is almost complete and usually the last
room to be considered is the Master Bedroom. Make this a respite from
the rest of the house. A home away from home, a place for you to
be an adult and have the peace and quiet you deserve. This is where you
get to do what is not in the norm regarding decorating and try some "out of the box ideas"…just for your enjoyment. Be creative and let your imagination
be your guide.
Here are some ideas for the one spot set aside just for you or for you and your someone Special:
1. If you have a significant other, find out what they like: colors, style and furniture taste.
2. Then consider what your taste is regarding colors, style and furniture do not let your significant other’s thoughts on these issues have impact on your ideas.
3. Look thru magazines, books, check out design houses and see what peaks your interests. Once you have some pictures lay them out and do comparisons. There is a pattern and once you really look at all the pictures together on the table you will see a consistent trend, no matter what magazine or book you pulled the pictures from; it may be colors, style or type of art.
4. Have your someone special do the same thing as you did in number 3.
5. Then compare notes….there may be exact opposite thoughts and some consistencies. Put emphasis on the consistencies.
6. Doing all this prelim work may seem ridiculous, but once you start the project it make things go so much easier than if you do the patchwork quilt routine and make periodic changes instead of setting a methodical plan.
6.5 With the patchwork quilt set up…usually the room never gets done or
instead of creating an eclectic look the room looks piece meal. At times a couple of changes are completed, but interest is lost due to the changes are taking too long; or the room never gets a makeover in the first place because neither individual knows what to change first.
7. If your partner does not have any interest in helping you….and says “Do
Whatever” then lucky you!!!!! The world is your oyster…of course we assume within budget.
8. Be committed to the project. We all know when it comes to doing something for ourselves we procrastinate and don’t follow thru to the end…so commit, commit.
Doing your bedroom for yourself is a treat, completing a Master Bedroom is a rare occasion; so if you have the opportunity to proceed with a bedroom change even if its only painting the walls a fresh new color…you should go for it. At Interior Gaines we like to help our clients get a fresh new start or just rearrange a room so give us a call (805) 795 7244 and have us provide you a helping hand towards renewing a room for you.
